Major Production Unit: Pre-Production - Casting: Auditions

It's been a month since the listings were posted and there has been a lot of interest in the roles so our Producer created a document containing every applicant who we were interested in auditioning along with their email address and other information relating to the status of the audition.

Dates were arranged for the ones who responded to the emails our Producer sent out: the majority of the auditions shall be carried out via Skype with Madeline, Phil, and Joseph Cullen agreeing to come to the studios for a physical audition.

Some applicants had to decline before the auditions could take place due to personal reasons; production clashes or being too far away from the production locations and some never responded to our initial email. This left us with around 6 auditions taking place on the 9th December.

To prepare for the auditions I watched an informative video on a production company's Youtube channel that gave tips on holding auditions.

Some key points I took from this were:

- Know your script
- Make the applicants comfortable
- Record the auditions for future reference.

We only had one applicant turn up for the physical audition but all Skype calls went through fine; all of the auditions were recorded.

After the day was over myself and the Producer discussed the applicants and we contacted two to inform them that we were interested in them based on the audition and provided more details on the production.

Unfortunately one requested payment of £50 per day which would have totalled over £500: almost our entire budget. The second applicant we contacted ended up having conflicts with another production several weeks after the audition day.

I reposted the adverts after their closure time passed and we received a lot more applications:

Sean's Applications

Archie's Applications

Zoe's Applications

Perry's Applications
In total we received 24 applications from Casting Call Pro and 13 from StarNow, which was a fantastic amount of interest with 747 and 819 page views respectively.

Our final stage of casting is explained in "Casting: Final Auditions and Decisions".
